Root Bay
Outpost CampOur
Camp is located in Root Bay which lies on the Southwest end of Lake St. Joseph.
Located 62 air miles North of Sioux Lookout, there are 3 outpost cabins at this
site, the cabins are well equipped for groups of 4, 6, or 8 people. This
outpost fishing site is a perfect for large groups that would like to book the
whole camp. Lake St. Joseph is the best producer of quality fish, the average
size walleye is 19 to 21 inches. A person should be able to catch 15 to 20 - 24
inch plus walleye daily. A non-resident can fish Lake St. Joseph only if they
go through an outfitter, the non-resident has to buy a St Joseph sticker for
his/her licence. |
Treat the
family - take them all fishing in Ontario!!! St. Joseph has become legend for both large Walleye
and Lunker Northern Pike. The lake is 95 miles long and it is very unlikely
you'll see anybody else. The lake may be big, but it is not required to drive
95 miles to go fishing. One of the best spots on the whole lake is 1/2 mile
from the dock at the Root Bay outlet which flows into root river. Since the
introduction of reduced limits and 1 trophy fish, the fish have been getting
bigger on all of the lakes. Walleye average 3-6 lbs occasional 8-12 lbs and
plenty of 10-15 lb Northerns, occasionally 20-25 lbs. The biggest walleye
caught this year was 12.5 lbs and biggest northern 47 inch - 27 lbs.

Give your
grandchildren the experience of a life time - take them fishing in Sioux
Lookout, Ontario!!!
An abundance of 4 to 5 pound
Walleye are common as well as 15 to 20 pound Northern Pike. Try any of our
outpost sites for some excellent fishing - our biggest laker was 21 pound
(Carling Outpost has lakers as does the main resort), biggest small mouth 22.75
inches, biggest Muskie was only 49 inches. We don't have a lot of Muskie
fishermen, but we do have guides that know Lac Seul and the Vermillion Lakes
well, which are becoming a widely known area for Muskies. The biggest Muskie
this year was a 58 incher, caught by a first time muskie hunter.
